Arch. DI Rudolf Schober, one of the formative architects of Oberwart in the second half of the 20th century, had his own residential house built here. It was planned by him for his own family and occupied by him for many years. An internal spiral staircase connects the levels. Outside, another flight of steps runs along the house into the different garden areas.
The property also includes a garage, boiler room, two cellar rooms as well as a former tank room. The house is currently heated by a gas central heating system. According to the owners, the roof covering was renewed around 25 years ago.
This house is not a new building and does not want to be one. Much is visibly from its time of origin. It is precisely the generous room proportions, the built-in furniture, wooden surfaces, the special sequence of levels and the connection between interior space and garden that, however, make the character of this house.

Es wurde von ihm für die eigene Familie geplant und über viele Jahre selbst bewohnt. Eine historische Aufnahme der Gleichenfeier des „EF-Hauses Schober, Mozartgasse 7“ zeigt Rudolf Schober als Bauherrn gemeinsam mit seiner Familie, dem Baumeister und einem Mitarbeiter seines Architekturbüros. Die Aufnahme wird von der Momentothek Oberwart etwa auf das Jahr 1962 datiert.
Schober war zunächst bei der Oberwarter Baufirma Gustav Steurer tätig und führte anschließend bis 1988 sein eigenes Architekturbüro. Küche und Esszimmer bilden weitere eigenständige Wohnbereiche. Dazu kommen Schlafzimmer, zwei weitere Zimmer, Badezimmer, ein WC sowie zwei Terrassen – eine zur Straßenseite und eine zum Garten.
Auf den tiefer gelegenen Ebenen setzt sich das Raumkonzept fort. Hier befindet sich unter anderem ein großzügiges Musikzimmer, das sich ebenso als Atelier, Bibliothek, Arbeits- oder Rückzugsraum nutzen lässt. Über dem Wintergarten hat man direkt Zugang zum Garten. Zwei weitere kleinere Räume, ein Waschraum mit Dusche und WC sowie verschiedene Neben- und Kellerräume ergänzen das Raumangebot.
Eine innenliegende Wendeltreppe verbindet die Ebenen miteinander. Außen führt eine weitere Stiege entlang des Hauses in die unterschiedlichen Gartenbereiche.
Zur Liegenschaft gehören außerdem eine Garage, Heizraum, zwei Kellerräume sowie ein ehemaliger Tankraum. Beheizt wird das Haus derzeit über eine Gas-Zentralheizung. Die Dachhaut wurde nach Angaben der Eigentümer vor rund 25 Jahren erneuert.
Dieses Haus ist kein Neubau und möchte auch keiner sein. Vieles stammt sichtbar aus seiner Entstehungszeit. Gerade die großzügigen Raumproportionen, die Einbaumöbel, Holzoberflächen, die besondere Abfolge der Ebenen und die Verbindung zwischen Innenraum und Garten machen jedoch den Charakter dieses Hauses aus.
Wer ausschließlich eine moderne Standardlösung sucht, wird dieses Haus möglicherweise verändern wollen.
Wer dagegen Architektur, Originalität und die Geschichte eines Hauses schätzt, findet hier etwas, das sich heute kaum mehr neu schaffen lässt.
