During the week you live at your place of work, at weekends in your previous flat. Already after the first switches the charging cable is always in the wrong place, while other items are unnecessarily duplicated. A consciously planned switching routine can make everyday life clearer. This article deals exclusively with organisation and not with the tax recognition of a second household.
What stays and what really has to move
Run through a normal working morning at the second location. Which items do you need there constantly, which only occasionally and which are personally so important that they should travel with you? Sort by function, not by the random contents of your first travel bag.
Then create a short list “stays here” and a list “travels with”. Having duplicate equipment is a personal budget decision. The article does not recommend a blanket amount to buy and does not assess tax deductibility. The crucial thing is that you reliably understand the chosen allocation later.
The return journey starts at the place of work
Plan not only the arrival but also leaving both flats. What must be done before departure, what should be prepared for the next arrival? Phrase concrete tasks: pack work documents, check required clothing or clarify any outstanding delivery. Unclear universal checklists help less than a few actually recurring steps.
A fixed place for the switching items can be useful. It should not become a collection point for unresolved things. Everything that lies there has a named reason for the next trip.
Test for a week instead of seeking a perfect system
In the hypothetical example Jonas drives to the place of work every week. He does not immediately adopt an extensive packing list from the internet. Instead he notes after two typical switches what was actually missed and what travelled unused. From this a small fixed set of items at the place of work and a short personal travel bag list emerge.
In the case of a professional exception he consciously reviews this list anew. An additional appointment or a longer stay may change the need. The normal routine is not treated as a complete answer to every special week.
Also agree shared tasks
If other people use one of the flats, it should be clear who takes on which regular household task. A temporary absence does not automatically mean that someone else does everything. Discuss concretely which help is promised and how changes are communicated.
Review the routine again after a while. What proves successful stays; what only creates extra work is simplified. The result is a reliable process for your actual weekly rhythm. Tenancy contract questions, registration obligations, insurances and taxes must be checked appropriately for the specific situation regardless and are not answered here.
