The electric garage door is behaving differently than usual. At home people say it reverses when it encounters an obstacle, so the safety is already resolved. Do not treat such an impression as your own safety verification. Use the anomaly as a reason for an appropriate professional inspection of the door actually installed.
Reversing does not answer the whole protection question
The DGUV explains in the context of doors in workplaces that the reversing of the door leaf alone is not sufficient proof of safety: the closing forces that occur also play a role. [TOR] The article does not transfer the workplace-related annual inspection obligation to every private garage and does not state private measurement limits.
Our editorial recommendation: Describe to the door specialist the change already observed during normal use. When did it occur, which command was given and which indication is reliably known? For a more precise description no object and certainly no person should be placed in the movement area.
Bring together model and previous work
Provide existing model, drive and service documentation. Which components were changed later and which information is missing? A door leaf and a retrofitted drive should not be treated as an unchanged original system without confirmation.
Have the company clarify which inspection and which safe handling are required until then. The article does not permit further operation for private observation. No one should alter force values, sensor positions or shut-off functions and no one should interfere with springs, cables or the drive.
Enable the inspection organisationally
Describe the normal use of the garage and the people involved. With the specialist company agree when the area must not be used and what organisational preparation is necessary. Technical deactivation, inspection and return to use remain specialist tasks.
Please then request feedback on the system actually inspected, on work carried out and on remaining limitations. The message “door runs again” explains less than a comprehensible finding on the reported anomaly. A new remote control alone is not, in this article, proof of all protective functions.
Fictitious case: The demonstration is cancelled
An owner wants to show the family by placing an object in the way that the door reverses. He does not carry out this test. Instead he describes the known course of events and has the appropriate specialist inspection including further handling organised.
No private inspection, repair or safety clearance is created.
