Your monthly budget ends with a surplus. Nevertheless, the account balance is insufficient on the day a housing payment is due. A monthly balance only shows the sum of all assumed transactions. For actual coverage their sequence is decisive. The following editorial check supplements the monthly calculation with a few specific days.
Begin with the real opening balance
Choose a start date and note the balance actually available. Then record all known inflows and outflows for your review period with their scheduled days. Income expected at the end of the month is not moved forward to the start of the month.
Separate outstanding but still unresolved amounts from secured information. This article does not assert any general statutory due dates nor a claim to change them. For your overview, the documents that actually apply and confirmed dates are decisive.
The hypothetical monthly course
On the first day 600 euros are available in the example. On the third day 900 euros in housing payments are supposed to go out. On the tenth day 2.000 euros are assumed to come in. Further expenditures until the end of the month amount to 1.000 euros. The monthly sum would be 600 plus 2.000 minus 900 minus 1.000 equals 700 euros.
However, before the inflow on the tenth day there are already 300 euros missing for the payment on the third day. The positive month-end does not prevent this timing shortfall. Further early expenditures would increase it under the corresponding assumptions. The case figures are freely chosen and are not a recommendation for an account buffer.
Concretely confirm the possible solution
Check which actually available funds could cover the early date. The idea of making the payment later is not an existing agreement. If a different payment rhythm would make sense for you, clarify it in good time with the responsible party and keep any confirmation.
An overdraft or other interim financing is not assumed to be a free standard solution. Availability, terms and costs would need to be examined separately. It is more helpful to recognise the recurring timing difference than to close the same surprising gap each month with unresolved means.
Relate the result to the lowest balance
Mark in the chronological list the lowest assumed cash balance before the next inflow. Recheck this balance after changes to the salary date, housing payment or larger debits. Your monthly budget remains useful for the overall burden. The additional sequence of days answers the other necessary question: Is the money actually there when you need it?
